Fulbright Seminars

We organize several Fulbright seminars during the year. The events are open to the public and free of charge!

Annual Fulbright Seminars

Come and meet with the U.S. Fulbright Finland grantees at the American Voices and Fulbright Forum seminars. During the seminar days you have also a chance to talk about study, research, and funding opportunities in the U.S. with the Fulbright Finland team.

The American Voices seminar in Turku provides an opportunity to learn about various aspects of  U.S. society and culture through the experiences of U.S. Fulbright grantees currently in Finland. The seminar is organized by the Fulbright Finland Foundation, John Morton Center, and the Department of English at the University of Turku.

Special Fulbright Seminars

Regional Nordic Fulbright Training Webinar: Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within the Fulbright Programs
June 15, 2020 – Online

This regional training webinar brings together Fulbright commission staff from the Nordic countries to explore the concept of diversity in relation to the Fulbright Program with a focus on issues that are specific to the region as identified and shared by the participants. Dr. Susanne Hamscha, the Diversity Coordinator for the European Fulbright Diversity Initiative (EFDI), will provide the theoretical framework and develop sensitivity to hidden biases and diversity that we don’t necessarily see. The training will also make staff familiar with the concept of inclusive communication. Event is by invitation only to staff of the Nordic Fulbright Commissions.

 

Truth Matters: Building a Media Literate Society
March 18, 2020 - Helsinki Central Library Oodi

This seminar invites the Fulbright community from the Nordic and Baltic countries and special guests to explore and discuss critical media literacy skills necessary for citizens in a modern democracy. In conjunction with the seminar, the Foundation and the Finnish ASLA-Fulbright Alumni Association offer a regional Nordic-Baltic Fulbright networking event and an Alumni Collaboration Dialogue, during which the Nordic and Baltic Fulbright alumni can discuss and plan regional collaboration.

 

Truth Matters: Strategies for Combating Manipulated Realities
March 13, 2019 - Helsinki Central Library Oodi

Through a keynote and a panel with Finnish and international experts, followed by hands-on workshops, the seminar focused on the challenges of manipulated content, and aimed to identify strategies and outline concrete actions that can be taken to prevent and combat threats caused by manipulated realities. The seminar was organized by the Fulbright Finland Foundation.

 

Fulbright Arctic Research in Action: International Collaboration to Address Shared Challenges
February 28, 2019 - University of Oulu

At the Fulbright Arctic Symposium, scholars from around the circumpolar North discussed their innovative collaborative research focused on resilience and sustainability. Discussions highlighted ongoing projects developing actionable recommendations for national and international Arctic policymakers. 

The event was organized by the Fulbright Finland Foundation in cooperation with the University of Oulu.

 

Making Democracies Resilient to Modern Threats
March 14, 2018 - Metropolia Bulevardi Campus

This public seminar sought to highlight a wide range of threats that democracies face today and may face tomorrow, as well as providing strategies for institutions and individuals to understand and deal with these threats.

The seminar was organized by the Fulbright Finland Foundation in cooperation with the Finnish Prime Minister’s Office, the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the United States Department of State, and hosted by the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.

 

2016 European Fulbright Conference
June 18-22, 2016 - Hotel Hilton Kalastajatorppa, Helsinki

2016 European Fulbright Conference brought together Fulbright leaders and cooperating agencies from both sides of the Atlantic to share best practices and plan strategy for future exchanges. The conference was funded by the U.S. Department of State and hosted by Fulbright Finland. Nearly 90 participants from over 40 countries attended this unique conference. 

 

Towards a Sustainable Arctic Future
February 11, 2016 - University of Oulu

Fulbright Arctic Symposium gathered together Arctic scientists, students, policymakers, representatives from NGOs and other key stakeholders, as well as the general public. The event was organized as part of the mid-term meeting of the international cohort of Arctic researchers participating in the Fulbright Arctic Initiative (FAI) Program. The Symposium was organized jointly by Fulbright Finland and the Thule Institute, University of Oulu.

America in Living Color

America in Living Color seminar was organized during 2010-2013 in cooperation with the North American Studies Program at the University of Tampere.

Finnish - North-American University Cooperation

Finnish - North-American University Cooperation was a two-day specialist seminar in Helsinki on December 11-12, 2008. The seminar strived at furthering cooperation between Finnish and North American higher education institutions.
