Opening of U.S. Fulbrighter Christin Boggs’ Photography exhibition

Aalto University School of Art & Design’s Gallery Atski presents:

Viljellä: A Photographic Exploration of Helsinki Garden, Farm and
Foraging Practices by U.S. Fulbright Fellow Christin Boggs

31 March - 12 April, 2014
Opening Monday 31 March, 5 - 7PM

Viljellä, an exhibition by U.S. Student Fulbright Fellow Christin Boggs, explores both traditional wild food foraging and recently developed urban food practices within Finland’s capital city. Photographs document the practice of wild fruit foraging within the city, as well as existing urban farms and gardens. An installation by Helsinki farmer Jan Liesaho of Stadin Puutarhuri brings the growing process to the gallery. A video interview with Sini Forssell, one of Herttoniemen Ruokaosuuskunta’s founding members, discusses the development of the Helsinki food cooperative since 2011. Viljellä presents an opportunity for Helsinki residents to learn about ways in which to become involved in the local food  movement through existing community gardens, community supported agriculture farms, pop-up farmers markets and other organizations associated with sustainable food ideologies. The exhibition will open Monday, 31 March, 5 - 7PM, at Aalto University School of Art & Design’s Gallery Atski, Hämeentie 135 C, 8th floor. Admission is free.
