Fulbright Center Finland Fulbright Finland is proud to announce its new Fulbright-Saastamoinen Foundation Distinguished Chair in Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases Research. It is the fifth Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Finland.

- This Chair will enhance long-term research collaboration between our countries, says Dr. Jukka Mönkkönen, Rector of the University of Eastern Finland. UEF has a strong profile in human health research, and the grant creates unique new opportunities for U.S. scholars to do high quality research work in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases in Finland.

Over 150 countries around the world participate in the Fulbright Program. However, there are only 44 Fulbright Distinguished Chairs globally, and 5 of those are in Finland. Only Finland, the UK, and Australia have more than four Chairs. The Fulbright-Saastamoinen Chair is the first that operates on a model where each Chair comes to Finland for two one-month periods over two consecutive years.

The partnership agreement creating the Fulbright-Saastamoinen Distinguished Chair was signed on April 21.
