Practical tips for the program

  • Check if your phone company offers a “travel package” that would allow you to have Internet access during the trip. Wi-Fi is available in many places but you want to have access to GoogleMaps and group WhatsApp even when Wi-Fi is not available.
  • You will receive a Museum Card, museokortti, which works as your entrance ticket to museums you can explore during your free time.
  • Passes for local transportation in the Capital region will be provided for certain days when you have more freedom with your own schedule. Local buses, tram and metro are reliable and HSL app is an easy tool to plan your route and schedule in the capital area.
  • Note: We don’t have a tipping culture in Finland, even though some places are trying to introduce it. Waiters’ salaries do not depend on, or rely on tips.

Voices of Fulbright-Hays Fellows: Education Innovations from the U.S.

Preparing for the presentation

  • Think what you want to share? What makes it worth sharing? What makes it a good practice or innovation? Is it something that could be benchmarked by other educators?
  • Prepare an eight-minute presentation or session for your cohort. Be ready to give a presentation without any IT-tools or slides, because some of the sessions might be out in the nature. You can use other illustration materials if you wish, and if your good practice is, for example, a teaching method, your cohort can act as your pupils. After the presentation there are two minutes for quick questions from your cohort.

After the presentation

  • Send a summary of max. one A4 page or a short (2 – 3 pages) Power Point presentation to the Dropbox after your presentation
  • Presentations will be added to the Fulbright-Hays webpage after the program.
