Finnish Universities Gain Popularity Among U.S. Students

To mark the start of the International Education Week, the Institution of International Education (IIE) with support from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs released the 2019 Open Doors report on Monday, November 18, 2019. The report is based on an annual survey that is conducted in 3,000 U.S. institutions and among U.S. students studying abroad, on international scholars at U.S. universities, and international students enrolled in pre-academic Intensive English Programs.

The latest report revealed that Finnish Higher Education Institutions (HEI’s) are continuously gaining popularity among U.S. students. The number of U.S. Students in Finland has increased over 11% from last year. Since 2012 the total increase has been 98.8%.

The number of the Finnish students in the U.S. HEI’s however decreased by 6,8%. Over half of the Finns in the U.S. are Undergraduate students (54.2%), followed by Graduate students (19.3%) who had an increase of 4.5%. Compared to 2018 there were 25.9% less Non-Degree students.
