Grant Programs to Finland

The Fulbright Finland Foundation grant programs offer American scholars, students, teachers, and professionals unique possibilities to carry out study and research projects in Finland.

The purpose of the Fulbright Finland Foundation is to promote a wider exchange of knowledge and professional talents through educational contacts between Finland and the United States. Our vision is to empower the minds that will find global solutions to tomorrow’s challenges by fostering academic and professional expertise, and excellence in leadership.

“Who is a Fulbright Finland grantee? I am. And you are too. If you’re reading this, you’re already halfway there. There are many perceptions of what makes a good Fulbright applicant, but in my experience, it comes down to authenticity, a passion for your topic, and a receptive disposition for new experiences and cultures. It’s not about having the best test scores or academic record. In fact, the resilience developed through a turbulent or non-traditional educational background might actually provide you with the exact qualities needed to be a successful Fulbright grantee.” - Meg Jones, 2021-22 U.S. Fulbright Fellow

In addition to the grant stipend, the Fulbrighters receive a substantial package of additional services and benefits, including a free supplementary accident and sickness benefit, personal advisory services and training sessions before and after arrival to Finland, as well as access to seminars, events and networking opportunities organized by the Fulbright Finland Foundation during the grant term.

Future Changemakers

We are looking for applicants who want to impact the future and to make a difference – who want to facilitate changes which develop and advance their own profession or discipline, and who want to find solutions to the national and international challenges in their field.

Fulbright grantees are cultural ambassadors and future changemakers whose projects have the potential for significant impact while building bridges between the United States and Finland. As a Fulbrighter, you will join thousands of alumni serving as leaders across the globe in every field of study.

Grant Program for Fulbright Finland Alumni

As a Fulbright Finland alum, you will become a part of Friends of Fulbright Finland (FoFF), an active alumni network in the U.S. The Friends of Fulbright Finland coordinates many events and initiatives in the United States for alumni, and supports the Fulbright Finland Foundation and its various grant and outreach programs.

The Friends of Fulbright Finland Alumni Enrichment Award offers Fulbright Finland alums the opportunity to continue and develop collaboration with their Finnish host. The grant is funded entirely through the Friends of Fulbright Finland Alumni Enrichment Endowment. All funds to the endowment have been received by personal donations from alumni and friends of the program.

What Makes the Fulbright Program Unique?

  • In addition to the grant, the Fulbright program offers the grantees several additional benefits and free support services, as well as an access to a global, multi-professional network.
  • We are looking for applicants who want to impact the future and to make a difference – applicants who want to facilitate change, develop and advance their own profession or discipline, and find solutions to the national and international challenges in their field.
  • The grantees also act as ambassadors for the Fulbright program, their home country, and their home organization and, in this way, do their part in sharing their home country and culture and contributing to the relations between Finland and the U.S.
